I was rewatching S1 the other day and remembered how much of it had struck me as "huh, that seems a very… specific thing to focus on" and my foreshadowing spidey-senses started tingling back when it first aired. And then more turned up while I was watching S2.

Ones that have come to fruition:

The nose jar It got a lot of focus for a one-scene moment. Why specify that someone causing trouble would get a nose cut off and then not show someone getting punished with their nose getting cut off? Chekov's nose-jar was used in 2x01 and is a trigger point for the entire villain arc for the second season.

The recurring threats to Lucius's life Honestly, the amount of times he was threatened and harangued and nearly killed by Jim. It really would have been bad for the vibe around there, so when they 'killed' him at the end, Naaaaaaah. Didn't believe it for a moment. (Speaking of, Izzy has a similar run of near-deaths all through S2, so HMMMMMMM)

"Captain Hornigold! There's a blast from the past!" The second they brought up his name, I was ears pricked up and staring and going oooooooo, because there's no way you mention a significant figure from both pirate history and Ed's department of backstory when we know he's Captain of the good ship Daddy Issues without having a plan for one of the major male influences in his life, especially knowing the history that Hornigold takes the act and turns hunter and is instrumental in tracking down Blackbeard.

The wait staff exchange in 2x06 It seemed like lot of dialogue to not be leading somewhere. Behold, the Revenge crew as Wait staff in 2x01:D

The escalation of the British enmity We started out with Captain Badminton and levelled up to Admiral Badminton with the British as recurring villains all through the season and the thread of royal influence popping up here and there, which got me thinking next stop would be either their elder brother or someone even further up the social pecking order. Enter Ricky.

Secret passages built into the ship So I, like many others, assumed Lucius would be the dead man hiding in the walls. We were halfway right XD There was a dead man hidden in there. Twice.

We'll go to China Was left with a "why China?" vibe from that and it wouldn't stop niggling me that there was some specific reason that the writers would have chosen China of all place. Turns out if you can't go to China with your boyfriend, China will come to you and kick your ass.

Still to come:

"You saved the clippings so we can make fake heads and escape" I maintain this is the big one for S3. We have no less than 10 separate references to heads/faces being removed and fake heads. Stede even uses three different fake heads as props (rowing boat, the skull in the fuckery and the corpse head in the triple-fuckery of his death) and given Blackbeard's death famously involves his head being strung from the mast of the ship, it feels prescient.

"I thought that when I did marry, it would be for love" "Peasants marry for love" Not. Subtle :D Our man has already made himself a peasant and has his boyfriend, so he's part of the way there.

"I always hated you" Ed saying this to imaginary Hornigold has me absolutely foaming at the mouth for what the real Hornigold is like and absolutely 100% certain this is the plan for S3. As mentioned earlier Hornigold became a pirate hunter but also it would tie in with the S1 foreshadowing as well - we've had him mentioned, we've seen what he looks like, we know what he's done so the second he shows up in S3, we need no introduction. Plus Ed's processing his history so having his history roll up to hunt him down? *chefkiss* YES. And if (as I'm convinced) Stede was in the Gravy Basket like Ed in 1x04, then based on how Mary and Father Teach behaved, the way Hornigold is acting in the Gravy Basket is completely out of character, which would track since he's being pally and nice and taking care of Ed at different points. The few facts we do know from Jack and Ed's recollections include stabbing them, beating them down, treating them like dogs, the Felix story and him threatening to flay Ed's skin off and feed it to him. This means that outside of the basket he's gonna be SO. MUCH. WORSE.

Crossing the Darien Gap We got the glimpse of Zheng's crews bringing ships through the jungles across the Darien Gap and saw the queue of ships lined up on the Pacific side on the map. Ricky may have taken out the ships that were in the Republic, but that wasn't all of Zheng's fleet and he has no idea more are on the way because everyone knows no one can cross the Darien Gap. He'll never see it coming ;)

A Royal Hostage Given how petty a little bitch Ricky is, I get powerful vibes that he would be the one to specifically unleash Hornigold on Stede and Ed. Stede especially, since he's the one who recommended taking him as a hostage, and he already blames Stede for leading him a) to the Republic and b) for his nose getting the chop. Him using Daddy's fortune to settle a vendetta by privately commission a famous pirate hunter doesn't seem like a stretch.

Our spirit will outlast your whole fucking empire Izzy's definitely not gone for good. He's gonna be back and he's going to be a glorious little bitch about it :D (Supporting foreshadowy evidence: shot in the left side, indestructible little fucker who has been shot-and-believed-dead twice before, existence of the gravy basket, canonical resurrections, a known seawitch with ties to purgatory at the grave)

Questions I have about Shadowhunters (specifically the Freeform show) after rewatching for the Billionth time:

1. Who the fuck is reading all of these reports that the hunters are continuously sending to Alicante? I wanna know a day in the life of the poor schmucky analyst that has to wade through all of them from all of the varying institutes.

2. Does literally Anyone other than Alec and Jace understand the parabatai bond? They both attempt to explain an issue they are having with it to other people throughout the seasons and are brushed off or ignored Everytime.

3. Also people obviously do not understand parabatai because I cannot fathom being the HotI (Aldertree) and having my best fighter (Jace) defect to a genocidal maniac’s side (that’s what the Clave thought happened) and Not placing his Parabatai in a holding cell. I’m so sorry but if I was Head the very first thing I would have done after heading about Jace would have been to lock up Alec. (Also the fact that Alec can bark out orders to the Ops floor and have every single person snap to attention and listen while Lydia and Aldertee can’t do that is hilarious)

4. Why is everyone(in universe) acting like 2.5 weeks of Knowing about the Shadow World and living at the institute is enough time for Clary to be proficiently trained? Her training sequence with Izzy had an audience that was low key making fun of her? I dare anyone reading this to train in quarter staff for an hour or two a day for 10 days and face a black belt and let me know how that goes. Like Izzy and Jace are the ones who failed clary, she understandably has a ton going on.

5. Why is Magnus one minute super understanding of everyone and powerful and savvy as High Warlock and the next minute arguing with Alec about Alec not paying enough attention to him? The argument in season 2x01 is ridiculous. Alec is rightly upset about Jace being missing tries to articulate to multiple people but especially Magnus, how Jace being missing is making him feel as a parabatai, and Magnus’ response is “I know I can be too much?” What the absolute fuck were the writers doing reducing Magnus to a petulant, jealous, jilted lover here? I’m not excusing rude behavior on either Alec or Clary’s part, but no one is reacting to either of them in a way that seems like they understand what’s happening.

6. What fucking time is it? What day is it? When do these events take place? Oh my fucking god the timeline on this show drives me bananas.

Yet I’m still continuing to watch it. And hopefully fic some of these things in my fics.

I can't speak for where they go with this kind of thing because I've only watched the first couple seasons (and even then I'm skimming and skipping a good bit), but early Supernatural goes so hard on the Winchesters being ghosts themselves.

It's repeated and blatant that, in Supernatural, a ghost is just a regular person who refuses to let go. Whether it's revenge, grief, guilt, or something else entirely, the ghost simply can't give it up and move on. After making this clear in more subtle ways, episode 2x01 flat-out states it: Dean's in a coma after a car crash, and the reaper tells his spirit that he can either let it go or become a ghost.

REAPER Well, like you said. There's always a choice. I can't make you come with me. But you're not getting back in your body. And that's just facts. So yes, you can stay. You'll stay here for years. Disembodied, scared, and over the decades it'll probably drive you mad. Maybe you'll even get violent. DEAN What are you saying? REAPER Dean. How do you think angry spirits are born? They can't let go and they can't move on. And you're about to become one. The same thing you hunt.

(as you can probably guess, he does not, in fact, move on)

Later, in 2x16, the brothers are hunting a highway ghost with the aid of a woman who survived the crash it caused.

SAM [exchanging a look with DEAN] I think maybe you should come with us. We'll take you back into town. MOLLY I can't. I have to find David. He might have gone back to the car. SAM We should get you somewhere safe first. Then Dean and I will come back. We'll look for your husband. MOLLY No. I'm not leaving here without him. Would you just take me back to my car, please?

She refuses to leave the area without first finding her husband, and I realized a few things immediately:

She's a ghost (later in the episode this is confirmed)

The thing that tipped me off was her refusal to accept what's happened and inability to move on

In order for something like that to be such an obvious tell, the show has been using this "definition" repeatedly and deliberately.

Who else in this show acts this way?

Sam and Dean (and their father John) are locked out of normal society by their lives as hunters, acting out the same pattern everywhere they go, saving someone from the supernatural and then leaving to do it again somewhere else.

20 years ago Mary Winchester died, and none of them have moved on.

Over the course of the show, each of the Winchesters will utterly refuse to accept the deaths of their loved ones. They'll get caught up in quests for revenge. John sacrifices himself for Dean's life and Dean sacrifices his for Sam's and Sam sacrifices his for Dean's and-- over and over, they're caught in this cycle because they never, ever let go.

They're ghosts still walking. At least the regular kind you can kill with salt.

Like, was that a hunter? Or timetravelling Loki himself? Or timetravelling Mobius?

When Joyce and Hopper are talking about El, we see three Teris. Not a coincidence (also, always the number three. Like 10, 11 and 12. Three kids? Will, El and Sarah? Not sure)

Two babies. Twin imagery, or hint at two timelines. We see it again in 3x07.

But it gets even more specific: yellow flowers (like sunflowers) little girl, bounty (with another 3), Teri and brawny man with mustache, like Hopper. Like, this is a whole story.

At Seven Eleven, Ricky (like Richard Brenner, the head of the Narcotic Enforcement Division?) asks Hopper if he's a bounty hunter. Maybe this is what happened in the past? Why it seems that someone was shot and then there was a car chase?

Runaway is playing when El is in Chicago and looks at these cops.

Runaway movie in 4x09. The main character is played by another man with mustache, Tom Selleck. And in 3x01 Hopper is watching Magnum P.I., a show about a Vietnam veteran who becomes a private investigator.

Before the police chase in 2x01, Kali kills a man with mustache.

Here Joyce "shoots" Hopper with the prize gun.

Also, the Baby Ruth behind Hopper could be a Goonies Easter Egg and a hint at Nina. We see the name Ruth in Kali episode, too, so yeah, I don't think these are just coincidences.

And the fact that we see the word Prescriptions behind or above them could be a hint that Joyce and Hopper were drugged and manipulated by the lab, to forget what happened.
